Recent advances in ruminant trace mineral nutrition and their consequences for ruminant mineral supplementation programs

Trace minerals are essential nutrients in cattle nutrition, playing critical roles in metabolism, immunity, reproduction, and productivity of dairy and beef cattle. Speakers during the 4th Novos Enfoques Trace Mineral Summit were Dr. Philipe Moriel from the University of Florida, Davi Brito de Araujo from Trouw Nutrition and Dr. Rodrigo Marques from the Virginia Tech University. In their presentations they highlighted advances in understanding trace mineral sources for cattle, their biological function, and strategies to improve mineral supplementation in modern livestock systems.
Figure 3b: Vitamin A stability in a more "common" premix formulation for cattle with 10% moisture added, containing no copper, 45mg/g copper as copper sulphate with normal particle size of 75 mu, 45mg/g copper as copper sulphate with a particle size similar to the particle size of Selko IntelliBond hydroxychloride copper or as Selko IntelliBond hydroxychloride copper in combination with an normal dose of 25,000 mg/g butylated hydroxytoluene. Vitamin A is included as retinyl acetate at a level of 3.250 mg/g.
